Open House Hobart 2026: inside Lumina at Parliament Square

Lumina at The Tasman, Parliament Square, Hobart, by fjcstudio

Lumina, the new event space at The Tasman and Parliament Square, opens to the public as part of Open House Hobart 2026 on Saturday 7 November, from 10am to 1pm. It is new to this year’s program.

A new chapter for Parliament Square

Lumina completes the eastern edge of Parliament Square, alongside some of Hobart’s most significant heritage buildings. Its column-free interior is spanned by cantilevered glulam beams made from Tasmanian plantation oak, the largest weighing four tonnes. Bespoke timber detailing throughout gives the room warmth, texture and a strong sense of place.

Meet the team

fjcstudio architect Michael Sanday-Ferrier and a member of the SHAPE team will talk visitors through the ideas, design decisions and craftsmanship behind the building, and how local materials and contemporary construction came together to create a distinctly Tasmanian space.
