Hotels and Hospitality

Contemporary hotel design places greater emphasis on the special and unique qualities of place. A hotel should capture a sense of place and resonate with its destination, serving not only as a base for a visit but as an emblem of the city and the experiences specific to it. Understanding the local culture, and celebrating the unique qualities of each location, gives every hotel its own identity and experience for guests.

fjcstudio has undertaken significant hospitality and mixed-use projects, including the Tasman Hotel at Hobart’s Parliament Square, Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, the Quincy Hotel at The Rocks and the Ritz Carlton at The Star, won through a design excellence competition. We have also designed projects for Fullerton Hotel Sydney, Cambridge Hotel Surry Hills, City Tattersalls Club, 338 Pitt Street, 420 Kent Street and 187 Thomas Street.

Hotel design also responds to contemporary environmental concerns. Material selection and the efficient use of energy are central to our approach, alongside design innovation that creates a distinct identity in a highly competitive market.

Tasman Hotel

Part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, The Tasman is a 152-suite boutique hotel created by refurbishing six heritage buildings within Hobart’s Parliament Square, linking early sandstone with later Art Deco buildings.

Sydney House, City Tattersalls Club

Three restored heritage buildings and a new infill building complete the Pitt Street composition, with late Victorian and Art Deco interiors complemented by a new grand staircase.

338 Pitt Street

Slender towers nestle into a network of through-site links and public spaces, extending the public domain vertically from an open-to-sky porte cochere to a series of roof terrace gardens.

Oxford & Foley

A 75-room hotel with commercial, retail and creative spaces, composed as an interplay between turn of the century heritage buildings and new glass and metal forms that hover above.
