Event and Function Venues

fjcstudio designs event and function venues as cultural places: rooms that hold performance, celebration, exhibition and public life, and that carry the stories of their sites. Our venues range from a column-free function centre to a heritage machine hall, each flexible, technically resolved and specific to its place.

Much of this work gives new life to significant buildings. The Machine Hall at SubStation No. 164, with its 12-metre ceilings, gantry and original hydraulic lifts, now hosts fashion runways, dance performances, weddings and Vivid Sydney events. The Mint, for Sydney Living Museums, received the Sir John Sulman Medal and the Greenway Award for Conservation in 2005, and was named Best Specialty Venue at the Meetings & Events Australia awards.

At Barangaroo, The Cutaway creates a cultural venue within the cut sandstone of the former headland, shaped with First Nations collaborators. In Hobart, Lumina, for The Tasman at Parliament Square, is a column-free function centre in Tasmanian Plantation Oak, designed for up to 220 guests.
