The Architecture of Work
fjcstudio specialise in contemporary workplace design, producing workplace projects with unique identities and contemporary environments that address client requirements, aspirations, programs and budgets. fjcstudio has successfully undertaken numerous contemporary workplace and commercial projects and has been recognised for its experience in this area through the receipt of the Australian Institute of Architects National Interior Design Award on two separate occasions, as well as the Office Building of the Year from the renowned World Architecture Festival.
Working at the forefront of commercial office building design, fjcstudio having been awarded some of the highest design and construction awards both in Australia and overseas, including the Harry Seidler Award for Commercial Architecture, the City of Sydney Lord Mayors Prize, the Sir Arthur G Stephenson Award for Commercial Architecture and the Office Development Australia 5 Star and Office Interior Australia 5 Star Prizes from the Asia Pacific Property Awards.
Our workplace work includes commercial towers, campus workplaces, commercial foyers and atria.
We have successfully undertaken the design of many significant commercial developments including:
- Darling Quarter, Sydney
- Liberty Place (ANZ Tower), incorporating Legion House, Sydney
- 200 George Street (EY Centre), Sydney
- 200 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne
- South Eveleigh Precinct
- K1 at Kings Gate, Brisbane
- Parliament Square, Hobart
- Ben Chifley Building, Canberra.
All of these projects are acclaimed for design excellence and innovation and all have received the highest environmental ratings, receiving 6 Star Green Star ratings from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Further, fjcstudio’s EY Centre at 200 George Street, which includes the contemporary workplace headquarters for the leading developer Mirvac, was the first Australian building to get certified under the WELL building standard, achieving a Gold rating. This award is recognition of fjcstudio’s reputation and work in biophilic design and ability to deliver internal environments that utilise natural materials, are full of fresh air, and prioritise natural light and access to view.
Contemporary workplace projects demand great invention and rigour in the design of workplace environments and associated discipline to achieve high efficiencies, and sustainable outcomes within an economy of means. Equally, they are city-forming, contributing to the street-life, the local micro-climate and the skyline. The ‘clients’ for these projects are not only the sponsor or developer but the broader community and the many and varied users of our cities.
There is therefore an increasing emphasis on the activation of ground plane space integrated within our commercial buildings. What were once solely lifeless, office space for workers to occupy are now vibrant, activated city spaces, with integrated food and beverage and retail environments creating exciting new additions to the street and laneway culture of our CBDs.
fjcstudio’s recent portfolio of commercial buildings, including 200 George Street, Commonwealth Bank Place and Parliament Square on Hobart’s historic waterfront, are all exemplars of this new trend in placemaking design, incorporating unique approaches to the public domain whilst still providing functional, commercial office accommodation above.
Creativity, invention and above all, dedication to a collaborative and consultative process, are central to achieving without compromise the demands of development, community and city-making.
