Waterfront Brisbane

Where the city grid meets the river
Once the location of Brisbane’s first produce markets, the newly designed urban development weaves together the city grid and the river’s edge to create a new intersection at the convergence of Creek and Mary Streets, while re-establishing previously lost vistas to the river. The transformation of the Eagle Street Pier and Waterfront Place precinct is a city-shaping project for the Queensland capital.
Beyond the towers
The project is not simply about the two workplace towers that will enhance Brisbane’s skyline, but rather the positive urban impact upon the city, and the opportunities it brings to the people of Brisbane. The waterfront, once segregated by a confluence of buildings and mismatched connections is now characterised by a rich, interconnected network of new public realm spaces of varying size, orientation and character. The key organisational pathways through the site are conceived as extensions of Mary Street and Creek Street, reconnecting the city grid to the river.
A riverfront public realm
More than 9,000 sqm of public realm extends along the river: a widened promenade for cyclists and pedestrians, with green space, shaded meeting places, paths and terraced steps suited to Brisbane’s subtropical climate. The 280 metre riverwalk has a minimum 6 metre wide thoroughfare, giving people a safe and engaging route through the precinct. It is a significant investment in Brisbane’s public infrastructure and aligns with Council’s River’s Edge Strategy.
