Extending the Street
Foyers act as public rooms that draw the life of the street and public domain into the building, with clear sightlines and generous, welcoming entries. Cafes, seating and spaces to meet extend the foyer’s use beyond arrival, making it a place for tenants, visitors and the public to spend time throughout the day.
Identity and Arrival
Materials, light and proportion give each building a distinct identity and make every arrival a considered experience for tenants and visitors. A foyer is often the first and most lasting impression of a building, so we design it as the clearest expression of the architecture, from the entry to the lift lobby.
Art and Narrative
We integrate art and the story of each site. At 200 George Street, a bronze line traces the pre-European shoreline and Underwood Ark by Michael McIntyre anchors the foyer. Art and interpretation give each foyer meaning beyond its function, and help people understand the history of the place they arrive in.
Lift Lobbies and Amenity
Lift lobbies, lift cars, end-of-trip facilities and commercial amenities are designed with the same care as the foyer, as at 200 George Street. The quality of the arrival continues through every part of the journey, from bike store to workplace, reinforcing the identity of the building for the people who use it daily.
Refurbishment and Repositioning
New foyers can reposition existing buildings in the market, as at 388 George Street and 580 George Street, while respecting the character of the original architecture. A well-designed refurbishment gives an older building a renewed address and identity, extending its life and avoiding the embodied carbon of demolition and rebuilding.
Engineering and Detail
Ambitious foyers depend on precise engineering and detail, such as the suspended translucent glass walls and high-tension cable system of the ANZ Tower foyer. We work closely with engineers, facade specialists and fabricators to resolve structure, glazing and finishes, so the design intent is realised in every junction and material.
