South Eveleigh Precinct is a technology park which integrates workplace, urban design, architecture and placemaking. The site was formerly home to the Eveleigh Railway Workshops of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The redevelopment of the area as South Eveleigh Precinct unlocks this former industrial site and recreates it not as simply a business park, but as a significant public precinct for both workers and the local community. Masterplanning for the precinct was undertaken by fjc and Sissons Architects in association with Aspect Studios. The masterplan saw two major workplace buildings and a smaller community building sited within a series of public spaces including tree lined streets, landscaped green spaces and a major central civic space. This urban approach has created an active village and engaging public domain offering workers and the wider community diverse and unique opportunities for recreation and work activities. After masterplanning fjcstudio were engaged to complete Building 1 (Axle) and Building 2 (Foundry).

Axle is a 46,430 sqm premium-grade commercial building. It features workplace design and sustainability excellence, advanced technology and heritage integration. Occupant interaction within the workplace is encouraged by providing generous building circulation paths around the atria with social hubs, meeting rooms, oversized stairs, and bridges to create a stimulating and collaborative environment. The atria extends onto platforms at the east and west to allow dramatic views out for staff and views from outside to the workplace activity.
