It is a pleasure to see LUMINA, the new event space at The Tasman, a Luxury Collection hotel, now open in Parliament Square, overlooking Hobart’s waterfront.
As the architects of Parliament Square and The Tasman, we approached LUMINA as the next chapter of the precinct, extending the same care for place, heritage and Tasmanian craft into a dedicated setting for gatherings and celebrations.
The room is column free. Cantilevered glulam beams manufactured from Tasmanian plantation oak span the space, the largest weighing four tonnes. Bringing local timber and local making into the structure gives LUMINA its warmth and its sense of provenance.
The venue responds to growing demand for premium, boutique-scale event spaces that can move between intimate and high-impact formats. It accommodates up to 180 guests theatre style, 156 classroom style, 190 for a gala dinner, 166 for a wedding reception, 100 in an open elliptical format and up to 220 for a standing cocktail event.
Food is central to the experience, reflecting The Tasman’s culinary philosophy and its long-standing relationships with Tasmanian producers, from plated service and long table dinners to live cooking and producer-led moments.
LUMINA joins a body of work in which we design event and function venues as cultural places, from The Cutaway at Barangaroo to Machine Hall in Sydney. Thank you to The Tasman, the builders and makers who brought it to life, and the whole project team. We look forward to seeing it host Tasmania’s business events, weddings and celebrations.
