200 George Street has been recognised in the honorary category Remarkable Facade Bringing Paradigm Shift by ZAK World of Facades.
The facade of 200 George Street moves with the sun. Behind a clear outer skin, timber blinds adjust in response to heat and light, reducing the need for mechanical cooling and giving the building a presence that changes through the day. It appears transparent in the morning and denser by the afternoon, recording the day on its surface.
The system is expressed rather than hidden, making climate and energy visible. Unlike the sealed, uniform towers around it, 200 George Street shows how a facade can both perform and communicate.
Completed in 2016, the tower grows from its site, with a sandstone core rising from the ground and a public ground of stone and timber at Crane Place, where archaeological finds from colonial and Victorian Sydney are on display.
Congratulations to the fjcstudio team and to our collaborators Mirvac Design, M&G Real Estate and EY Australia. Read more about 200 George Street and Crane Place.
