Reuben College at the University of Oxford, designed by our UK studio, has been named Low Carbon Project of the Year at OxProp Fest 2024. The award was presented by Dame Katherine Grainger.
The project is one of the University of Oxford’s largest decarbonisation and decontamination efforts, involving the careful removal of asbestos and mercury from Grade II listed buildings. The renovation turned former laboratories into the social heart of the college, with refurbished spaces for dining, events and interaction. The college was deliberately designed without gated walls, promoting openness and access.
Reuben College shows how historic buildings can be preserved and made far more energy efficient at the same time. Secondary glazing, upgraded roofs and new energy-efficient services improve thermal performance while protecting the heritage fabric, extending the useful life of the buildings.
The award recognises a commitment to sustainability and climate action that matches the college’s mission as Oxford’s 39th college. We thank our client, Reuben College, the University of Oxford and the whole design and construction team, and the Reuben Brothers for their support throughout the project.
