Learning hubs

The interiors of Inner Sydney High School are designed as an extension of its contemporary learning model, supporting collaboration, flexibility and different modes of teaching and learning through Specialist and General Learning Hubs. Rather than relying on conventional classrooms, the learning hubs combine formal and informal settings, enabling students to work individually, in small groups or as part of larger collaborative activities. The educational model, developed specifically in response to the high-rise school typology, promotes shared access to spaces, encouraging interaction across disciplines, supporting team-based teaching and avoiding traditional learning silos.

Robust, adaptable interiors

A restrained material palette, integrated technology and flexible furniture create robust, adaptable interiors, while extensive glazing brings natural light and views into the learning environment. Specialist facilities, including science laboratories, hospitality kitchens, visual arts spaces, TAS workshops, performing arts and fitness facilities, are integrated with general learning hubs throughout the vertical campus. The inherent flexibility of these spaces supports a range of contemporary and evolving teaching models, allowing the school to adapt over time.

Wayfinding and character

Subtle colourways assist with orientation and wayfinding, while reinforcing the broader narrative of the campus. Materials and finishes respond to the distinct character of each learning environment, from the heritage fabric of the “Village Campus” to “The Studio”, “The Verandah” and the “Learning and Community Hubs”. Together, these environments create a connected interior landscape that supports student-centred learning, collaboration and a strong sense of community.
