Fleming Park

Fleming Park

fjcurban’s design approach was to revitalise the Fleming Park Precinct which was tired and underutilised. A series of modest interventions such as the replacement of all non-compliant paths, new fencing, solar lighting and playground sculptures to separate from bike paths were undertaken. Two new buildings then complemented these. A “community sporting building” and the “restoration of an old derelict grandstand”. The large gravel car park was converted into a basketball half-court and a rebound tennis wall and the remaining carpark into a series of Bio Swales and native garden play areas.
The conceptual design for the community building was based on the celebration and retention of several significant eucalyptus trees on the site. This combined with the multiple uses briefed required a clever solution of consolidation into a new building that also connects a variety of existing structures including the Bocce Club, Local Band rooms and Historic Dance Hall. The new form embraces the oval providing informal bleacher seats and an outdoor deck that the community can use for sporting events as well as informal gatherings, bookending both sides of the oval.
